Eco-Vegan Eats in Portland, OR

I have only been in Portland for a day, but I have already done so much and I'm having a blast! I'm making videos of it all, but it may take me some time to get them up, so here's a summary in the meantime.

Rachel Sarnoff of EcoStiletto really knows how to throw a great party, and Anna Getty knows how to make beautiful green books, so their event last night at Rolling Greens was really wonderful. In fact, I can honestly say this was one of the best events I've been to in L.A., mainly because of all of the great people who were there. I admit I was so distracted by my conversations that I only caught a glimpse of Anna's new book, Easy Green Organic, but I'll be sure to review it eventually.

In addition to Rachel & Anna, I enjoyed the company of:

There was also some yummy vegan food, including a delicious strawberry salad, sesame noodles with tofu, Nicobella chocolates, O.N.E. coconut water cocktails with 360 organic vodka, and wine from Frey Vineyards. Rolling Greens nursery is really pretty, and it's definitely worth a trip to check it out.

I am really excited to share this video and writing with you, not only because I had a lot of fun with it, but because I truly stand behind the product. I used NeatDesk and NeatWorks to organize all my receipts this tax season and it helped me save thousands of dollars through deductions.

Eco-Vegan hair care in an aluminum container!

You may have read my post last week about the importance of avoiding plastic bottles. After seeing the documentary Tapped I went home and started recycling all my plastic containers. Then I walked into my bathroom and realized almost all of my body products were in plastic, and I felt defeated. Luckily, I found an answer to the problem at Natural Products Expo West.

Why You Need to Stop Drinking Water Immediately

Pictures from the Santa Monica College screening of Tapped

The water you're drinking right now probably contains chemicals linked to cancer...assuming you're drinking out of a plastic bottle or container - yes, even the one that says it's "BPA free" or "50% less plastic". So why does the label say it's "safe" and "pure"? Marketing. Truth be told, that bottle of water could be worse than what comes out of your tap, as the plastic has most likely leached something dangerous into it. I'm sure you're skeptical, because you've been conditioned to believe bottled water is better for you, but if you have even a doubt in your mind isn't it worth reading further?

Several weeks ago I left my job to focus on Eco-Vegan Gal full-time. It was a big decision that was months in the making, but I was finally ready to take a leap of faith. But what prompted me to leave the comfort of a weekly pay check? Ironically, it was my job. You see, I had been working on an amazing book about women who followed their passions and started their own green businesses. Everyday I went into work and sat down to help edit this incredible book, reading through inspiring stories of success, until it finally hit me that I was ready to focus on my own story.

A few weeks ago a chance conversation with Maria Shriver resulted in a great opportunity - she asked me to write an eco-themed article for her site Women's Conference(I was featured on the front page)! Please check it out for tips on how being eco-friendly can be both healthy and cost effective.

BPA

A few days ago I had a great, but disturbing, conversation with my friend Ken Spector (of Living Echo) Not only is he vegan, but he is full of facts on health. He started talking about BPA (Bisphenol A), and I was shocked at what he was saying. I later found a great article on how to avoid consuming it, from Women's Conference.

Screening of A Chemical Reaction (Giveaway!)

I went to the screening of A Chemical Reaction today and was really inspired by it. Though the movie was low budget (came out of the filmmakers' pockets), that was easily overlooked because of the strong story and message.
