In honor of Vegan MoFo (Month of Food) I'm doing a video every day of September on the What A Vegan Eats YouTube channel. Yesterday I made one of my new favorite treats: a durian smoothie. If you've never tried durian this is a great introduction - it's not only easy to make, but it's sweet and creamy. It makes for a filling breakfast and a healthy snack!

Unfamilar with durian? It's a large tropical fruit with a spikey exterior, which is infamous for it's ordor - some find it foul, some find it pleasant smelling. You can find it in the freezer section of many Asian markets, and often at healthy restaurants (especially of the raw vegan variety). It's not for everyone but I highly recommend you try it with an open mind.

Kitchen tools needed: Blender

Serves: 1

Ingredients:

  • Durian, frozen - 1/2 cup
  • Banana, frozen - 1/2
  • Coconut milk (or mylk of choice) - 1 cup
  • Cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • Vanilla powder or liquid extract - 2 tsp
  • Salt - dash
Steps:
  1. Add it to a blender and blend for 30-45 seconds (until smooth)
  2. Pour into a pretty cup and enjoy with a reusuable straw!

Enjoy this durian banana smoothie! I would love to hear what you think of it when you make it. And let me know, are you or aren't you a fan of durian?

What do you want to see in my future Vegan Mofo videos?
