Earlier this year I made a video about a store called Grocery Outlet. In order to film it, I had to travel outside of Los Angeles because there wasn't a location near my home. It was well worth the trip, but it was a bit of a tease because I wished I didn't have to drive hours to shop there. Fortunately, times have changed. I am thrilled to say that there are now 15 stores opening in the LA area! To celebrate, I filmed a video in their newest location in Costa Mesa and patterned with Grocery Outlet to do a giveaway for a $100 gift card.

Grocery Outlet stores offer impressive discounts on high quality products, including lots of vegan and organic brands. You can find fresh organic produce, plant-based packaged snacks, refrigerated and frozen foods, gluten-free beer, organic wine, natural health and beauty care, and non-toxic household products. They advertise their savings as being up to 60% off, and I have found items for as high as 85% off. Example: I saw a box of organic tea for 99 cents that usually retails for $7.

There are currently over 200 Grocery Outlet locations in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Pennsylvania. For those of you living in LA, Long Beach or Orange County get ready for a bunch of new stores in 2016. Here's a list of them and their approximate distance from mid-Los Angeles:
  • Costa Mesa (48 miles)
  • Westminster (38 miles)
  • Azusa (32 miles)
  • La Habra (29 miles)
  • Long Beach (30 miles)
  • Upland (41 miles)
  • Ontario (44 miles)
  • Lakewood (28 miles)
  • Compton (20 miles)
  • Sun Valley (11 miles)
  • Avocado Heights (25 miles)

When I discovered that the Sun Valley location is less than 10 miles from my home, I'm pretty sure I pumped my fist in the air. I love finding good deals on organic products. Grocery Outlet has some of the best prices I've ever seen in a store and it's really fun to hunt for deals.

Curious what the experience is like? Check out the video I made in the new Costa Mesa location:

Grocery Outlet is very supportive of the vegan diet and preferences for natural, organic food. In fact, they have a name for this at their stores: NOSH. This stands for Natural Organic Specialty Healthy. It's important to know that stock is always based on availability, so you're never guaranteed to find a product in the store. However, the managers are open to requests, so don't hesitate to ask them if they can get your favorite products on shelves. You can also call around to different stores to find out what they have, and check the #GroceryOutlet hashtag on social media to see what other people are finding.

To get the low prices, Grocery Outlet buys surplus products that companies made in excess or packaging changes. As they explain on their website, they get great deals on surplus, which allows them to pass on their savings to customers. This does not impact that wages that their staff receives - in fact everyone seemed very happy at the stores that I've visited! Grocery Outlet is a family run business and that each location is locally and independently run. This gives the company less of a corporate feel and each store a unique experience.
