Do It Gorgeously - Sophie Uliano at T Salon
Written by Whitney LauritsenToday I went to an event at the T Salon in West Hollywood. I have been to the cafe/store before and really enjoyed it - almost all of their desserts are vegan, the building is very eco-friendly, and their tea is fabulous (video review coming soon). I wasn't sure what the event was going to be like, but I was excited because there was going to be a demo on how to make organic skin care products. I was also intrigued after hearing rave reviews of the book Gorgeously Green, so I looked forward to learning about Do It Gorgeously. The event turned out to be fantastic!
Complimentary tea and vegan desserts were offered - though the tea infused cupcakes and cookies had gluten and most likely refined-sugar and soy, I took a nibble of each one for your sake. ; ) They were very yummy - moist and just sweet enough. I also loved that they were not individually wrapped, a nice green touch. Check out the slideshow below for some photos of other vegan desserts - they have gluten-free peanut butter cups!
I was warmly greeted by bestselling author Sophie Uliano - she was incredibly genuine and kind (not something you find very often in L.A.) Sophie showed a group of about 30 women (including Anna Getty and Rachelle Caron Begley) how to make 3 types of anti-aging skin care products, and each were very simple and sparked my interest in trying others from the book.
Luckily, everyone at the event got free copies of Do It Gorgeously - I am so excited to try the recipes! This book is right up my alley because I'm on a mission to avoid as much plastic as possible and make things from scratch. This is a great guide, including recipes from sunscreen to nail care to pet products to laundry soap - incredible! It also has some great DIY eco tips for mind, body, spirit. This book couldn't have come at a better time in my life!
I will keep you posted on the recipes that I try out, but I really encourage you to pick up a copy for yourself, and/or your female family and friends. You each will benefit immensely from it. As Sophie says in the following video, she wrote the book because many women were frustrated with the costs of healthy and green beauty products - so she decided to teach us how to make our own!
