Displaying items by tag: non toxic

A few months ago VegNews magazine approached me about writing an article about spring greening cleaning the home with tips on how to avoid and kick out nasty toxins. I was thrilled to contribute to their environemtal issue (entitled "Are We Screwed?") and learned a ton from researching the piece (I can reassure you, we are not screwed). This 'zine hit mailboxes a few days ago and should be in newstands now or quite soon so be sure to grab a copy! Here are a few of the simple ways to detox your home for better health (read the full lowdown in the article!):

Eco Nuts Laundry Soap (video)

I'm always on the hunt for non-toxic, eco-friendly products that aren't packaged in plastic, so I was thrilled to discover Eco Nuts. These dried berries are a very natural (and fun) way to wash laundry. They are organic, fragrence-free, hypo allergenic, biodegradable and reusable (use them up to 10 times!), plus they come in entirely plastic-free packaging! I've used them several times in my apartment building's standard washing machine (they work in HE/front loading machines too) and the results continue to amaze me.  "You'd be nuts to use any other soap!"

Cleanse Q&A On UStream (Video)

Since I've been receiving so many questions about cleansing I decided to do a live Q&A session on UStream. It was a last minute decision but I still received 17 lives views, and since it went so well I'm going to do more and give you a heads up so you can tune in and interact with me next time. If you missed the live show, you can watch it here:

Question:
I'm working on going eco-friendly/fair trade/organic and I was wondering what you thought about reusable menstrual pads. I've been thinking about maybe trying them but what about when you're out all day or not able to get home?

EVG Q&A: Natural Deodorant

Question:
Whats a good natural deodorant?

Answer:
The Crystal is amazing - been using it for years (click to read my review)! It's just salt, and you can get it as a solid rock or as a spray (the former has less or no packaging). Some people also use baking soda - rub it on with a bit of water or oil (like coconut oil).

WARNING: the following video contains nudity! Well, technically you'll just see bare legs, arms, and upper chest...and maybe a hint of more (I'm too much of a good girl so I edited out the rest), but I had to get your attention. ; ) Feel free to read the story, or just skip right to the good stuff in the video below, where you'll get an inside look at an organic sunless tanning company.

Eco-Vegan hair care in an aluminum container!

You may have read my post last week about the importance of avoiding plastic bottles. After seeing the documentary Tapped I went home and started recycling all my plastic containers. Then I walked into my bathroom and realized almost all of my body products were in plastic, and I felt defeated. Luckily, I found an answer to the problem at Natural Products Expo West.
