Cups of Joy: sweet treats worth cheating for

My recent change in diet may seem pretty boring and bland, and you may wonder what happened to the Eco-Vegan Gal who ate greasy meals and sweet treats. Truth be told, I love the way I've been eating, but I do take an occasional detour and indulge. Earlier this week I was tempted by a box of gourmet eco-vegan peanut butter cups - how could I say no? Well, I didn't!

JoyCups are incredible. I could stop the description right there because that word really sums them up, but I'll elaborate. Picture opening the lid of an eco-friendly box and discovering half a dozen decadent chocolates with beautiful artwork on top. At first, you hesitate to bite into them because you don't want to destroy the perfect designs, but your mouth won't let you resist. You sink your teeth into these beauties and the salty, sugary, fruity flavors dance on your taste buds. Next thing you know, the entire box is empty and you're licking crumbs out of the paper cups. At least that's what happened to me.

So why did I decide to splurge on these treats? First off, they're gluten-free, preservative-free, organic, the ingredients are local to my state of residence (California), and they are handmade in a small kitchen. Though they contain confectioner's sugar, I didn't get a headache from it like I usually do with refined sugar. As for sustainability, the cups are wrapped in recycled boxes and biodegradible film (no plastic or wax!), with handmade kraft tags from soy ink and recycled cardboard. Talk about eco-vegan!

I completely agree with The Joycup Co.'s tagline - these are not your everyday chocolate cups! If you'd like to see for yourself, you can order them through their website - they'd make a great gift. Please support this company - it's less than a year old. : )
